SUMMARY:FHA Beach Spring Clean Up Day
DESCRIPTION:FHA Spring Clean Up Day – This Saturday\, May 15th  \nWe are reaching out to volunteers for help with spring clean-up and general preparation of our communal areas for the season. May 15th is the scheduled date for this effort\, with May 22nd as the rain date. The weather forecast suggests some light rain the morning of May 15th\, but hopefully we can get some of the tasks accomplished. Projects/tasks are listed below\, please let Roger\, FHA Maintenance Director\, know any specific things you can help with. \n\nRaking leaves and general debris clearing from the beach and grass areas. Just a little left to do after the great work done by the early-spring volunteers. Leaf rakes\, (possibly) leaf blower and wheelbarrows are needed.\nVolleyball net installation at Ripple and Lollipop beaches plus basketball net installation at Ripple.  6ft or 8ft step ladder needed.\nHorseshoe pit leveling\, raking and general prep at Ripple Beach. Shovels and steel rakes needed.\nFinish spreading crushed stone at Lollipop Boat Ramp. What was done last Fall made a huge improvement! It has settled in enough now\, so the remainder can be used to level it out. Rounded shovels\, wheelbarrow\, and steel rake needed.\nMove gravel back in to parking lot at Ripple Beach\, where one errant snowplow pushed it over the concrete curb (again). Shovels are probably all that is needed.\nCheck for safety issues with swings\, climbing\, and other fun stuff at both beaches. Lube pivot points/shackles at upper swing chain mount points. New chain is in the plan\, but not yet purchased. Tall step ladder or small/medium extending ladder needed.\nConstruct kayak/canoe racks and distribute to Lollipop Beach\, Winding Cove Beach\, and Ripple Beach areas. (Other locations are pending\, but not forgotten!) Roger will provide a corded miter saw and circular saw\, drills (corded and cordless)\, and a driver. At least one other miter saw and circular saw\, and a few drills/drivers will be especially useful.\n\nWe do not need too many power tools. Since rain and power tools are not a good mix\, this is one project we may postpone to May 22nd.  Let Roger know if you plan on bringing any tools!\n\n\n\nIf you cannot help this Saturday\, let Roger know if you can help with these near-future projects: \n\nWe will need to stain new picnic tables and distribute them to Lollipop Beach\, Winding Cove Beach\, and Ripple Beach. Tables are on order\, but delivery is probably not before May 15th\, so Roger will schedule a work session soon after delivery. Rollers\, roller trays\, and brushes will be needed; FHA has a few\, a few extras are always useful.\nOne of our members has offered to do some rototilling at the Lollipop Beach area\, specifically to loosen up packed areas on the beach and the volleyball court. We will probably need some helpers when this gets scheduled.\nAnother project this year is to rebuild firepits at Lollipop Beach and Ripple Beach plus add a second firepit at Lollipop. One of our members volunteered specifically to help with this project\, but we will need more helpers\, especially someone with some experience with stonework who knows how best to tackle it and what materials we need.\n\nAs always\, thank you for volunteering to help our neighborhood!\n– Roger Allen\nmaintenance@farhillsassociation.com

DESCRIPTION:FHA Halloween Update \nTo reduce our member’s potential exposure to COVID-19\, Far Hills Association will not be hosting the annual Trunk-or-Treat event this year at Ripple Beach. We understand this is disappointing for children (and adults!) so we created an alternative activity for all ages…  our first pumpkin carving/decorating contest.  See below for full details. Thank you to the members that usually coordinated this event.  We are hopeful to resume hosting it next year!  We also ask members to follow all trick or treating guidelines from the town and CDC:  https://www.ashburnham-ma.gov/home/news/halloween-october-31-2020. \nFHA Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Contest \nCarve\, decorate\, color\, embellish\, paint and/or accessorize a pumpkin and send us a photo for a chance to win prizes! \nPumpkins will be judged these categories: \n\nCutest\nScariest\nFunniest\nMost creative\n\nPrizes will be awarded the winner of each category for the following age groups: \n\nAges 6 & under\nAges 7 to 12\nAges 13 to 18\nAges 19+\n\n  \nDeadline for submission is October 31\, 2020. SUMMARY:Annual Fishing Derby
DESCRIPTION:Annual Fishing Derby 5/23 to 9/7: \nThe Annual Fishing Derby begins May 23rd and ends on September 7th.  This is a summertime favorite and a great way to get everyone excited about fishing. The tournament is open to members and their guests. There are separate divisions for men and women for the heaviest Bass (1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place prizes) The Kids division (aged 14 & under) will feature 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place prizes for bass and crappie.  All fish must be weighed at the new weigh station located at the boat ramp on the point of Sunset Isle Drive; see red arrow on the map. Fish must be alive when weighed in and should be promptly released unharmed. Anglers must have a camera to self-report their catch.  Instructions will be posted at the weigh station.

DESCRIPTION:On April 1st\, there will be colorful printed eggs hidden around the lake. We are inviting you to join the hunt for them. If you see one of these eggs while walking or driving\, think of a fun way to take a photo with it! (Without touching it\, of course! ) See egg photos below for a sample of what they look like. \nSend your photos to secretary@farhillsassociation.com and we will post them to our new Facebook page and our website.  The photo with the most likes on our Facebook page by April 15th at noon will win a prize! \nIt’s a great way to get our community together and give EVERYONE a fun way to get outside. \nPlease remember to me mindful of social distancing when both looking for and taking photos. \nHave fun and good luck!\nErica Callahan\nFHA Social Director \nCan’t find one of our EGGS around the lake?  Make one\, draw one\, color one\, decorate one or eat one and send us a photo!
